A trip to the heart of the Inca empire

From a tourism point of view, Peru is one of the most complete destinations in Latin America.

Before starting to explain which are the places in the country that you cannot miss, it is important to take into account the change in altitude. The ideal is to plan the trip in stages and start it in lower altitudes so that you acclimatize.

Start your journey in Lima and get to know the historical heritage. With one day, you will have enough time to explore the colonial zone and enjoy restaurants where you will live unparalleled gastronomic experiences.

Next, fly from Lima to Cuzco and head directly to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, you will discover ancient cities and impressive archaeological sites, also you will have fun practicing outdoor sports.

The next part of the trip will take you to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 new wonders of the world and one of the highlights of the entire trip to Perú. To get there, you must travel by train to the town of Aguas Calientes, choosing the category that best suits your pocket. We recommend you board the Belmond Hiram Bingham, a luxury train that offer an exceptional attention, music and glamour.

On the way back you can go to Cuzco, a beautiful colonial city nestled in the Andes at 3400 meters of altitude. Declared a World Heritage Site, it is a unique mix of Inca heritage with Baroque and Neoclassical architecture.

If you have more days and more budget, you can extend your stay according to your preferences.

We suggest you visit Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable and inhabited lake in the world. You will be surprised by the floating islands, towns on the water built by its inhabitants in which different ethnic groups live, such as the Uros.

If you like mysteries and esotericism, you will love the Nazca Lines. Get on a plane and contemplate the enigmatic geometric figures created by the Nazca civilization over 750 square kilometers. In the same region, Arequipa, you will see one of the deepest canyons in the world: the Colca Canyon. From the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint you will have the privilege of observing, very close to you, the majestic flight of the condor.

However, if you prefer to be in the wild, don’t miss one of these two options. The first is going to the Peruvian Amazon area (Iquitos) and sailing for a few days on an exclusive cruise, from which you will see the pink dolphins. The second option is to go to Puerto Maldonado, stay in a lodge in the middle of the jungle and enjoy going on excursions and watching all kinds of birds, such as parrots.

If you still have energy and desire for adventure, there is an experience that will be waiting for you: walking the Inca Trail, one of the most spectacular trekking routes on the planet that you must book several months in advance.
